Turn on sync
Sign in, subscribe, and keep a business in step across your devices, with a copy in the cloud.
Sync keeps a business up to date on every device you use it on, and keeps a copy in the cloud, which is also a backup. A business is Local until you turn sync on for it. The word in the status bar that says where sync stands is the sync state. It is Local, Syncing, Pending or Synced.
What you need
- A sync subscription. Subscribe on your account page after you sign in. It is sold apart from the license (see Start your trial or enter a license key).
- To be signed in to TrueSum. Press the business's name in the title bar, choose Account, then Sign in or create account. TrueSum opens your browser. Sign in there, and TrueSum finishes by itself. Until you do, its Sign In window says "Continue in your browser". Your name then shows in the status bar.
- Internet access. Sync does not run while Privacy Mode is on.
Turn it on
A business you create while signed in, with a subscription, syncs from the start. There is nothing to do.
For a business that is already open, press Turn on sync in the status bar, next to the sync state.
The Businesses window opens and says Turning on sync for "Northlight Studio". A large business can take a few minutes. When it ends, a message says Sync is on for "Northlight Studio", and the status bar says Synced.
If you are signed in with no subscription, Turn on sync opens your account page in your browser. If nobody is signed in, the Businesses window says "Create an account and buy a subscription to sync."
You can also turn sync on from the Businesses window. Press the business's name in the title bar, choose Businesses, and press the cloud icon on the open business's row (see Stop sync for a picture).
What the status bar says
| Sync state | What it means |
|---|---|
| Local | Sync is off for this business. It is saved on this device only. |
| Syncing | TrueSum is sending your changes and checking for others'. |
| Pending | Your changes are saved here and wait to be sent. |
| Synced | Everything is up to date. |
Point at the sync state for details. Other sync states mean sync needs something from you. See Fix a sync problem.
TrueSum sends a change soon after you save it, and checks for changes from other devices on its own. To sync now, press the sync state or, in the View menu, choose Refresh. On a Mac that is Command and R, and on Windows it is Ctrl and R.
